About

My current role is Customer Insights Manager for Austrian scale up Jentis. While my role is remote, I’m currently located in Vienna as I complete onboarding. As part of the product team, my job is to connect with customers, partners and the digital analytics community and provide insights and analysis to help define the product roadmap.

I previously worked for Snowplow Analytics as Head of Community, building and executing strategies to grow and develop our open source community. I built a small team in EMEA & the USA to implement community programmes to consolidate Snowplow as the leading open source vendor in the behavioural data space. We were successful in growing the size of our community, creating a champions programme that significantly increased the number and quality of content creators helping educate the community and extend the reach of the brand. Our events programme invigorated the community and amplified the brand across the analytics community and significantly increased the membership of our local meetup groups.

Before Snowplow, I worked at Alfresco (now Hyland software) as a ‘Community Manager’, working with the Alfresco open source community. My role was to act as a bridge between the company and the community, looking for ways to grow the size and engagement of the community, to provide useful and meaningful activities and resources for the community, and managing and moderating the community forums. Our community programme was responsible for generating over $1.5 million in pipeline a year with 15% conversion rate. Ultimately I was there to enable people and companies to be successful in their use of the Alfresco software.

Skills

Along the way I’ve gained a wide range of skills and experience which I bring to every project I’m involved in. These skills include programming, information architecture, search engine optimisation, business process management, digital marketing, as well as the ‘soft’ skills of client management and ‘getting along’ with people.

I deploy all these skills and more in my current role as Community Manager, working with cross-functional teams and programmes internally and with a broad range of individuals within the our community. I’m work with Discourse, Khoros, Salesforce, Marketo, Pardot, Zoom, GoToWebinar, On24, Wrike, Smartsheets, and Drupal and WordPress, on a daily basis, managing, promoting and reporting on a broad range of projects and programmes.

In my previous work the focus was on conversion rate optimisation, optimising sales for clients with Magento web shops. This involved SEO to improve rankings, increasing CTR, and then improving conversion rates, digital marketing and ad campaigns. Sometimes that involved Magento development work, integrations and template tweaks and redesigns, etc.

History

After graduating from Cardiff University, I did a PhD in British history, & then worked as a uni lecturer in modern British & European history before changing career track and retraining as a Java programmer, getting a MSc from Birmingham University. Since then I’ve worked in a variety of roles (developer, senior developer, consultant, contractor, entrepreneur) in the public and private sectors.

  2. Hi,

I have read your article on “Writing a Joomla plugin” for Jomsocial Notify Adiministrator plugin. It was excellent and learned a lot from the post.

I think this was written for Joomla 2.5

Can you please give me plugin for Joomla 1.5?

    Thanks,
    Bala

  3. Hi Bala,
Unfortunately I can’t help here – Joomla 1.5 is so old now & soon will probably no longer be supported. I’d advise updating to 2.5 asap.
    Regards,
